04 — Review
Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum is the 2014 Eau de Parfum of Chanel’s aromatic-woody signature for men. It opens cold and citrusy with mint and pink pepper, then settles into incense, cedar, sandalwood and an ambery warmth that defines this concentration.
Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum at a glance
- Fragrance style: aromatic woody with citrus, incense and ambery facets.
- Best for: daily wear, the office, events and formal occasions.
- Recommended seasons: autumn, winter and spring.
- Character: clean, assured and versatile, with a warmer finish than its opening suggests.
What does Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum smell like?
The opening is cold rather than fresh: grapefruit and lemon cut with mint, pink pepper and coriander, with an aldehydic lift that keeps it from reading as a simple cologne. Astringent more than juicy.
The heart passes quickly. Ginger and nutmeg add a dry spiciness, jasmine a thin floral thread and melon a brief sweetness, but none of it stays long enough to define the perfume.
The base is where this concentration makes its case. Incense and labdanum bring a resinous, faintly smoky weight over cedar, sandalwood and patchouli, and amber warms the whole thing. Bleu opens as a citrus and finishes as a woody-ambery fragrance, and anyone choosing between the concentrations of the line should judge it on that second half rather than on the first ten minutes.
This is our reading of the composition as documented below, not a wear test: how it behaves on your skin, and for how long, is something only sampling will tell you.
Where these notes come from
Chanel’s official page names cedar, New Caledonian sandalwood and ambery-musky notes, and stops there: the house publishes accords for this fragrance, not a staged pyramid. The three-stage breakdown shown above — citrus, mint and pink pepper at the top, ginger and nutmeg in the heart, incense, amber and labdanum in the base — is Fragrantica’s, and so is the credit to Jacques Polge.
Where the two disagree in detail, Chanel’s wording is the one attached to the product you are buying. The database entry is useful for placing the fragrance against others, not for describing the house’s intent. This is also the least corroborated pyramid in our Chanel batch: of the databases we consulted, only one publishes a staged pyramid for this specific concentration, so there is no second reading to check it against.
Choosing the right version
The EDP is distinct from Bleu de Chanel EDT, Parfum and L’Exclusif. Compare the label and the scent itself; concentration names alone do not establish which lasts longer on your skin.
Performance and projection
The longevity and projection scores on this profile are Parfumo community ratings for this exact concentration, checked on 3 November 2026 — not a SCENTIVOIRE skin test. Parfumo publishes no versatility score, so we show none. Your skin, dose and climate will change the result.
Longevity
Parfumo members rate longevity 7.3/10 (5,549 ratings). This is the concentration most often described as the middle ground of the Bleu range, which is a statement about the line’s structure rather than about hours on skin. The useful test is a side-by-side with the EDT on opposite wrists, on the same day.
Projection
Parfumo members rate sillage 7.1/10 (5,539 ratings). Incense and amber materials in the base behave differently from the citrus opening: the first impression and the impression at hour three may not carry the same distance at all. Judge the fragrance in an enclosed room as well as outdoors before treating it as an office default.
Versatility
Parfumo publishes no versatility score, so this profile shows none rather than an estimate. Bleu de Chanel is tagged here for daily, office, event and formal use, which reflects how broadly an aromatic-woody profile is normally placed. Breadth of occasion is not the same as discretion, and the dose does more work than the tag list.
Best seasons to wear it
- Autumn: the incense-and-amber base is at its best in cooler air.
- Winter: dependable for indoor and evening wear.
- Spring: the grapefruit, lemon and mint opening suits mild days.
- Summer: wearable with a lighter hand; the warm base becomes more noticeable in heat.
These are editorial selection suggestions, not seasonal scores.
Who is it for?
Choose Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum if you want a polished citrus-woody signature that moves from crisp to warm and fits most settings. Avoid blind-buying it if you want something unusual or niche-leaning: its strength is refinement and broad appeal, not surprise.

Pyramid sources checked in September 2026; retailer prices and availability checked on 3 November 2026. Concentration, launch year and product identity are attributed to Chanel. The top–heart–base pyramid and the perfumer credit come from Fragrantica, a third-party database, not from the house, and for this concentration no second database was available to corroborate them. The description of the scent is our editorial reading of that documented composition. Occasions and seasonal guidance are editorial interpretations; no SCENTIVOIRE skin test has been carried out, and the performance circles are community data, not our own test: longevity and projection are Parfumo community ratings out of 10 (5,549 longevity and 5,539 sillage ratings); Parfumo publishes no versatility score, so none is shown. Listed notes describe the olfactory composition, not proof of natural ingredients in the formula.
